History
The Public-Private Alliance Foundation has its roots in the UN Public-Private Alliance for Rural Development, which was initiated in 2003 at the meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council in Geneva during a high-level segment on Rural Development. In 2004, Madagascar became the first pilot country of the "UN Alliance" with the Dominican Republic becoming the second pilot country in 2005. David Stillman, who served as General Manager of the UN Alliance while a staff member at the United Nations, has continued to promote this work through development of the Public-Private Alliance Foundation, which became a non-profit corporation under New York State law in 2006.
The Foundation is registered in the State of New York and received 501(c)3 non-profit status from the IRS in 2009. The EIN of the Foundation is 71-1016293.

The United Nations can only do its job properly with partners. We will need to forge even closer ties to civil society groups, foundations, academic institutions, the media, labour unions, and the private sector. Each has unique contributions to make.
